Supervisory Hydrologic Technician, GS-1316-12 (MP-DP)

As a Supervisory Hydrologic Technician within the Upper Midwest Water Science Center, Gladstone Field Office, some of your specific duties will include:
Serves as an advisor to the Michigan-Ohio Water Science Center Data Chief on all matters relating to data network operations and water resources data collection. Plans, schedules, and supervises the activities of 4 - 6 employees engaged in surface-water, ground-water, and water-quality hydrologic data collection, data management, and data reporting activities for the Center. Makes temporary or permanent changes in duty assignments; establishes performance standards and rates performance; recommends promotions, awards, disciplinary and adverse actions; and keeps employees advised of pertinent administrative policies. Promotes and maintains cooperative relations with USGS programs, local, state, tribal, and other Federal agencies concerned with the development and operation of hydrologic networks. Serves as the Gladstone Field Office expert on new and innovative technologies in the area of hydrologic data collection. Operates government owned vehicle as an incidental driver. Physical Demands:
Field work regularly requires frequent physical exertion to inspect ongoing operations, including walking over rough, rocky, or uneven terrain; lifting and carrying equipment and supplies; conducting field work in severe winter weather, and wading streams in all types of weather. Office work is sedentary. Work Environment:
The work regularly involves moderate risks or discomforts associated with visiting field sites with limited access, under adverse weather or flooding conditions, or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals. Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, snowshoes, or life jackets. Access to field sites requires travel on commercial and Government-owned floatplanes, and the use snowmobiles, ATV's, and tracked vehicles. //www.usgs.gov/about/organization/science-support/human-capital/hydrologic-technician-gs-1316 GS-12 One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include:
planning and conducting the computation and collection of data from approximately thirty or more gaging stations; determining stage-discharge relations, computing rating tables and mean daily, monthly and annual discharge rates from these stations. Acting as a party chief and making indirect measurements of flood flows under extremely difficult conditions. Collecting data including that required to compute flood flows by the slope-area method, by measurement of flow over dams, by flow through culverts and by flow over embankments. Obtaining hydrologic data from published and unpublished sources and conducting hydrologic studies relative to the frequency of flood and droughts. Planning and coordinating a ground water survey program for an area that may be either a small area with complex features or a larger area with planning and coordinating problems related to the scope of the ground water survey operations. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
